comp werkes LTD fender eliminator - June 11, 2012, 08:49 AM

debating getting the competition werkes LTD fender eliminator ( 2008 - 2011 Ducati 1198, 2007 - 2010 Ducati 1098 and 2008 - 2011 Ducati 848 LTD Fender Eliminator )

for my Ducati 848.. but i'm concerned about how likely having a plate mounted like that will end with me getting a fix-it ticket? i see plates mounted like that pretty often on bikes, but don't have any good friends with 'em... so i'm not sure.. My duc is loud as hell...and that can attract pig attention, and i don't wanna attract even more...

so whaddya all think??? is that increased risk worth the style??

thx!

no it's not.

license plate has to have light. LED lights are not DOT approved.

i could see getting a fixit ticket if a plate wasn't lit at all... but the light on this kit seems to be pretty effective, based on the few youtube videos i've seen... i think i'm more worried about lic plate placement being the issue

No, especially since it costs $150. If it was Free-IY, then maybe.

you don't get my point. the kit will probably provide an LED light to illuminate it. LED lights are not DOT approved therefore you will get a ticket. No matter how bright or effective the LED is.
oh yes and there is also the plate angle degree thing.

I try not to get pulled over for stupid reasons, fender eliminators are one of them.

no no i hear ya! i just don't know that a cop WOULD ACTUALLY give a fixit ticket bcuz the lic plate light was an LED... sure any cop CAN BE a dick... just don't know how likely one would actually pull someone over bcuz he thought the light was an LED..
but anything can happen...so maybe it'd just be smart to avoid the potential pain in the ass

I have never been bothered in MD and I have a Targa FE kit on my 2012 GSXR 750. The LED light is great. The important thing to remember is that your tag needs to be visible. Keep it so it can be read by all and keep it lit at night.

I've never heard of anyone having a problem with LED license plate lights. To get a ticket for that would be just plain stupid. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Audi, Lexus, MB, and BMW have all been using LEDs to light the license plate in stock form for quite a while now...

Also, an LED bulb can be replaced with a halogen easily, no?

Take the light off your stock fender, mount it up somewhere... use some drywall corner bead for the license plate bracket and put it next to the shock. Cost? $5 or so.

Hey- it's a DOT light
