Unhappy FI light ON...What to do ? - June 26, 2008, 07:43 PM

I own a 2006 Honda CBR600rr. Have around 12,500 miles. Last week...a friend of mines accidently dropped the bike....he was trying to put the stand and it fell on him...nothing happened...and there was no damage to the bike.

However after that.... my bike had turned completely off on two occasions during the middle of the ride - Im worried and Its extremely dangerous. The 'FI' light shows up and within a few seconds it slowly starts to shut-off. I worried about this. I have several opinions as to what 'possibly' could be the problem.

1.) Maybe battery is dying off ?
2.) I was at PA at that time and I might have filled up from poor quality premium gasoline.
3.) About time I change the 'Air Filter' ? I have a new K&N Filter...havent had the time to change it yet.
4.) Maybe I need new Sparkplugs ?

Any other possible suggestions ?

Spark plugs should last quite a bit longer than that. Battery shouldn't be the problem either. Finally, I doubt it's the air filter or fuel quality, although you may be up for the scheduled af replacement. You could try some seafoam in the tank I suppose. This is about where my lack of knowledge and experience with FI kicks in and leaves me with nothing else to offer. Can't help it--been a carbereted kinda guy for too long.

I know theres some sort of tip sensor that bolts to the fairing stay (behind the gauge cluster). Is it possible that that might have been knocked loose when it fell over?

The FI light comes on my 600F4i at random, followed by massive blue flames spewing out the exhaust scares the bejebus out of anyone nearby. The owners manual should give you a diagnostic based on how many times the FI light flashes also..

I used to sell new Hondas and Suzukis (Cars) in Rockville for 2 years.... I didnt know alot about bikes when I got my Honda......the only reason I got the Honda CBR600rr was because of the undertail pipe...but didnt know that I was going to expect so much trouble. This isnt the first time this has happened. Same thing happened once last year - FI problem.

Get you a service manual and troubleshoot. It will tell you all the FI trouble codes and what they mean.

Undertail would save me scars but of the three Suzuki's only one has given me an issue. Got that issue fixed and has been smooth sailing since.

"I think"....the problem has been solved... there was a disconnected 'gas overflow-rubber pipe' from below the gas tank. So far...hasnt its been running great. The new 'K&N' Filter does make a difference.

?!?! Only haters give it a bad rep...the same could be said about any other maufacturer. I've owned 3 Honda CBRs and one Ducati... All of my CBRs have never given me a day of trouble... Many could probably say the same with their 2 wheeled pride & joys.

I would think a Honda (or Gixxr, R1,ZX6) would give anyone a bit of trouble if dropped by someone else... but don't believe the hype-haterz.
