From what I understand, you have to maintain, at minimum, liability insurance on any vehicle registered in the state of VA.

So if you 'deactivate' your insurance for the winter, you need to turn your tags in so you don't get slapped with a $500 fine and sr22 for 3 years.

Also, if the bike is financed, it needs to have full coverage at all times

Besides, why would you deactivate it for the winter? You planning on not riding it?

Yes, that's correct, however insurance companies never check so if you're going to do it, do it with caution and have theft coverage like I've said.

Call your insurance - they typically have a winter program that still maintains coverage but is lower as you wont ride the bike.

I JUST got a letter from my finance company asking for retroactive insurance from May. They said that I can't provide it, they may take some kind of insurance at my expense.

Dayum, that's crazy. I never had that issue. I've financed three bikes so far and never received a request. Hell my track bike wasn't paid off until about a year ago and I dropped the insurance on it about 3 years ago when it became track only lol

Granted, this is for my truck but I'm sure the same rules apply to bikes. Might just be Apple FCU, I don't know.

I'm pretty sure it's the same since I have been told by the dealer each time that I have to keep full insurance as well.
