I just purchased a 2003 RC51 out in San Diego, CA and need to have it transported here to Northern VA...does anyone know of any good and affordable shipping services?

Would appreciate any advice you can give me!!!!

Foward Air is your best bet.

Wow, that's cheap. I don't remember why I didn't go with them when I shipped my bike back from LA. It may have been the insurance limitations, or because I wouldn't be able to drain the gas and get it to them. I had a very positive experience with with www.eagleoneexpress.com. Door to door delivery, very good price (although it was certainly more than $431.01, it was cheaper than all other shippers when factoring in insurance, etc.) no prep required, great service.

Good luck!

Thanks Rddy for the site! Don't most shipping companies automatically provide insurance?

That price is for the small container. You may want to check the dimensions of your bike. The small container is only 61" I just saw a site that put the wheelbase of the RC51 at 54 inches, so unless your bike has wheels and tires that are 7" in diameter including tires, and no overhang in the rear, it may not fit.

The price for Forward Air's middle sized container is $607.23, and who knows what is added to that, as I didn't go through the whole process.

With www.eagleoneexpress.com I handed my driver $610 total for my shipment when it arrived (that included everything - fuel surcharges, full insurance, taxes, everything). All of that, and I didn't have to do anything at all to my bike, not even move it from where I had it parked (which was nice, because my g/f didn't have to do anything other than uncover and unlock it and hand the driver the key). They came, picked it up from where it was, and delivered it to me here in DC. Didn't have to pay anything until it got here and I could inspect it. Good people!

Some of the sites I looked at charged for insurance over some cents per pound, which was well below the value of my bike. Others provide a minimum. Looks like forward air's may include $10,000 worth at no charge, but I didn't really look to hard at it.
