Unhappy Registration and Title Issue ((( Want opinions ))) - August 13, 2012, 10:44 AM

This morning i picked up a 2000 R1 at a steal price and it has 23k ..... Here is the problem when the guy was filling out the information on the title he accidentally checked the box where is says the mileage stated is in excess of its mechanical limits... (((but itís not itís the actual mileage ))) ((( when he registered the bike the mileage shows to be actual at 22k .... called the dmv and asked if it was ok that the error was crossed out and signed by seller and also noted in the bill of sale .... lady on the phone said i need to go back to the seller and have him get a new title
I figured what the hell..... Iíll go register it with the box checked and just take a picture of the front and back of the current title for future if and when i decide to sell it to .....
I really want to go register the bike today and ride it..... What do you guys think....

I don't think it really matters. Probably better to fix it; but if you really want to get it on the road, then don't worry about it.

The DMV doesn't even care about mileage on 10+ year old vehicles; and if you get the new title and it says 'beyond mechanical limit' i'm sure you'll be able to convince the next buyer that the bike does not have over 1,000,000 miles on it.

just my

if you want to do it the right way, have him get a new title. if you have no intentions of selling it, or dont care about the hit you'll take with a title that says the mileage has been messed with, go ahead and title it

i mean the bike is already 12 years old.. you're getting a good deal you said. I can't imagine you'll even take a hit when selling it based on this title non-sense.

If the bike was like new or 5 years old i might be a little more concerned.

Yup .. i figured so went to dmv and was not sure what to expect really

The lady at counter at first said it can't be done .... but i showed her that the seller had corrected the mistake and also noted that this is the actual milege both on the title and bill of sale ...so she talked to her boss and said it was okay ......

So was happy about that becuase i sure as hell didn't want to wait another week to ride her haha ...

Thanks Guys ..................
