Shady Craigslist Offers - May 17, 2011, 09:27 PM

Ok so im selling my bike on craigslist. What are somethings I should look out for when people want to see the bike? I feel like half the people that call me just want to see where I live so they can come and steal it. I had a guy call me from a 202 number and said he was from St. Marys county D.C. number living in Maryland not too fishy... He told me that if the bike was everything I said it was he has cash and wants to bring his trailer to come look at it if he likes it he will buy it on the spot... is $6500 cash not alot of money to just show up with? He then insists that the clutch cant be burnt up so he needs to test drive it so I said no test drive without cash in hand... he says thats fine... I then call him back and tell him that I cant meet up with him until 4:30pm tomorrow and that we would have to get to navy federal have them give me the lein release then take it to dmv and get the title but dmv closes at 5 so we should just wait for the weekend to make the sale. He says that hes not too worried about all that he just wants to buy the bike and I can get all that sorted out myself and mail him the title... kinda fishy... so Im kinda paranoid about this dont want to get jacked for my bike... I bought a counterfeit money detector pen and I sent him the address to a parking lot right across the police station to meet me at lol... Im also gonna have my girl staked out in my truck incase shit gets a little funny... I dunno maybe Im being overly paranoid but I just dont trust anyone!

yes you are being overly paranoid at the same time you never know. its good that you think that way because people these days cant be trusted. one of my friends sold his bike and some idiot payed on the spot no questions asked or didn't even check the bike out.

Meet him in a public place near your house. Carry just in case. Paranoia is good when it comes to stuff like this.

Craigslist sucks balls.

70-80% of the replies are bogus in my experience.

And the worst part is that you usually don't know that they're bogus because the replies are fairly generic. It's only 5 emails into the exchange, they drop the bomb on you saying that they will pay more via paypal if you ship because they are out of town.

All the bikes I've been selling lately, I've been given them a fake address or an address near my place.

Get all his email addresses, phone #'s. Search for his info on google. Search for his info on facebook. Find his facebook stuff, etc....

Meet him at a police station or have someone else that rides with you on their bike.

This.

A google check for Trivillus Lewis could have saved that one shop owner a ton of money
