Question Train the Brain Your Help is Requested - June 20, 2008, 06:19 PM

How can I train my self not to put a foot down when in a full lock slide?

Senario: Riding a back country road right hand corner. We all know to expect gravel, but sometimes, there is that invisible kind. The kind you can't or don't see until you apply throttle at the apex. Next thing you the rear wheel is tyring to pass the front.

I have been riding long enough to handle the bike through throttle control and most the time a steady hand will allow me ride right out of the slide. Today i had a pretty good one going and for some reason attempted to use my right leg as an outrigger and it mother f$%^ing hurt. I don't know if it comes from riding dirt was I younger or if it is a stupid natural reaction.

Other than duct tape and repeated forced slides is there anyway to train the brain to keep my foot on the peg where it belongs?

MX habits are hard to break, to this day I still catch myself trying to stretch out my inside foot on a turn on rare occasions.

Strike it up to reaction man....Some things you just do based on balance. Just like if you are falling your first reaction is to put your hands out to break your fall.
