07 gsxr 1000 brake light!!!! - May 24, 2010, 11:12 AM

Sup guys,

So I notice that my brake light is not working.. I mean the light is on... but when I press the brake the light does not get any brighter to display that I'm braking...

I checked the wire connections in the tail.. and they are connected well.. I also checked the fuse box but dint see any of the fuses blown...

Any one have any ideas???

check the part by the brake lever to make sure it's being pressed.

Possibly the board on the taillight may have a short.

If it was a short circuit shouldn't the light not turn on at all?

I have checked the lever.. and nor sure as to what it needs to press...? I mean the bike brakes fine its the light that is not turning brighter..

I had that problem on my 07 gsxr and it ended up being a connection at the pedal for the rear brake

Does it work when you hit the rear brake? If not and only does not work on the front brake then it is the switch at the lever has gone bad. This does happen.

It was something like a spring that became detached, my friend is the one that reattached it so that is why I am a bit fuzzy on what it was. My lights were on and it worked when I hit the front break but would not come on with the back break pedal

It does not turn on with either one presses.. the front or rear brake...
What troubles me is the fact that the light actually turns on like every time but when the brake is press front or rear it does not get brighter as it should..

took the light out and there is no way to change the bulbs i guess they are inbeded in there..

I LOVE IT....I LOVE IT...I LOVE IT....

the BULB IS BLOWN...go get a NEW ONE...be glad you have a bunch of people who will analyze a situation for you to the deepest levels of analyzing. I mean .NET will help you get to the bottom of any issue...

BUT THE BULB IS BLOW. A REAR LAMP will still turn ON but the BRAKE light function will not come on IF THE BRAKELIGHT BLUB IS BLOWN.

IT happened on my truck....The rear lights were on but when I hit brake...no BRIGHTER LIGHT...so I put new bulb in..end of story.

Normally i would say that is the case.. but on the light that my bike has the bulbs are not blown.. they are not turning on brighter as they should.. as if they are not recognizing that im hitting the brakes..

The light only has a few light bulbs that are not replaceable.. its like its own assembly...

hope that explains..

What kind of bike?

Is it an aftermarket brake light (Clear Alternatives) or stock?

Have you checked to make sure all plugs are connected securely under the seat?

Could it be a fuse? (I know, long shot)

And TalkofDC, I knew I had you on ignore for a reason, but I decided to see if you contributed anything of significance. But nope, just throwing insults at a group of helpful people trying to offer assistance and suggestions. :weaksauce:

I hear you...

But if we are talking the same language here...

the brake light bulb and the rear light bulb IS THE SAME LIGHT BLUB. Kinda like how your Highbeams and lowbeams on your headlight are on ONE BULB sometimes....and if you Hi's go out then you have to replace the blub to get the high beams back or vice versa with the lows...

So if your brake light AND rear light are on the same bulb...the rear light bulb could be still shining bright but the filament for the brake light part of the bulb is blown....thus why your brake lights are not working...on either lever.
