72 in 55 @ Caroline County VA - September 16, 2014, 04:17 PM

got tagged on 301 east bound. sheriff was at the usual fishing spot right before Ft. AP Hill. i should have known, but i was driving a group in the van and didn't pay attention. he said to call the number for the fine amount and i don't have to show up for court.

anyone have experience with Caroline County DA? i have MD license. think the points will transfer? i think 2 points?

show up for court and see about a reduce ticket?

my last one was in WV; June 2012. got reduced to 9 over.

Points do not transfer from state to state unless you were cited for suspended/revoked/unlicensed/ and or DUI/DWI. Only 17 over isn't bad and probably not worth your time to drive back down.

Do your own research of course; but I believe the above comment is accurate.

From the link (bolding is mine):
"As to any other out-of-state convictions, Marylandís MVA records the conviction on the motoristís driving record, but may not assess points for the conviction. Since the out-of-state conviction is still recorded, the motoristís insurance carrier will learn of it in due course and may re-rate the motorist for coverage accordingly. Please note again that this law office cannot comment on the converse situation Ė how another state may or may not treat a Maryland conviction on a driving record of a licensee of that stateís DMV."

You may wanna pull a copy of your DR and actually see what's recorded before you make a decision as to pay it (plead guilty) or show up and fight it. If you have other moving violations, it may be worthwhile to show up and fight it, or bargain it down to a non-moving violation just from an insurance rating standpoint.

I've had mixed results; I've tried fighting it and gotten nowhere, I've been able to plead down to a non-moving, and twice I've had the officer not show and case dismissed.....

I always recommend fighting it. Even if this ticket doesn't impact your insurance, the next one might and you may not be able to fight / win / get that one knocked down to a non-moving violation.
