Buying a supermoto soon. need opinions - April 19, 2011, 08:06 AM

So I am finally in the market for a supermoto. I currently have a crf150. I have the street setup and dirt. I only got to use it once at the Summit Point supermoto track day cause I didn't realize I was riding around with a broken bone in my hand(thought was a bad sprain) until after I over jumped the table top and it became clear I needed to see a doctor. So I missed the rest of the track days. I still did tons of parking lot time with it.

Now I want a full size bike too. The 150 works great up at Summit but I would like a full size that handles it well. I would also like to use it on the Shenandoah course and occasional street rides. Originally I was only looking at Honda CRF 450s and KTMs. Problem is all of a sudden there doesn't seem to be many KTMs and there are not many street legal Hondas. So now I have my eye on a couple Husqvarnas. I feel like the 610 may be to much for the Supermoto track at Summit but am not sure. I really like two 510s that I found. I know that would do well up there but how will it run on the Shenandoah. Also how reliable are they and do they require more maintenance then a CRF of KTM? I am also open to other recommendations and if you know of anyone selling anything. My price range is 4k-5k

Thanks

Don't get the 610. The 510 and 450 will work great. Don't get anything smaller than a 450 if you plan on running Shenny. I have the 530 with a SMR convert setup. Works great. Do you want it to be street legal and do you want to do dirt/off road?

He's also looking for something for the street. I suggest avoiding a converted dirtbike and get a purpose built supermoto, 510 or larger.

I have a friend in Charlottesville that's looking to unload his 06 KTM 450 SMR around that price range.

We were going to buy this bike for Donovan to use for SuMo, but Donovan said he really didn't want to spend his time swapping between a 250 and a 450. We just ordered wheels for his 250.

If you're interested, let me know and I'll get you in touch with him.

I don't think it's street legal.

Todd's off today. I'll have him give the guy a call.

And I just sold a street titled 06 560smr frame cheap. I have another street titled (04) frame that i'm planing on selling.

I'd go with a KTM but i'm biased.

The first step toward recovery is admitting that you have a problem.
