Husky 610 - June 6, 2008, 09:05 PM

I know a few people here have Husky's. What are your "honest" impressions. I'd like to know the good and the bad.

I'm sure from a performance aspect the bike would be fine but, I'd like to know for riding/fun how do you like it? What dealer would you recommend and how is their service?

Has it been reliable? How long have you had the bike and how many miles? How hard is it ridden?

I'm thinking about getting one since I've decided to remove the Aprillia 550 due to reliability and warrany concerns, read any forum and they are riddled with problems when it comes to the Aprillia. It's a shame because from a performance aspect it looks to be a bad ass bike. oh well...

So talk to me about the Husky! I'm not looking to race it, I just want something for fun on the street...maybe even something to tool around on at the track but we'll see.

3500 miles...no issues whatsoever...about to adjust the valves, but from what I hear, its easy, performance is great, brakes are unbelievable, and it will do 75-80mph all day long if you want to (six speed rocks)

oh, and it starts in 30deg weather without an issue

if you get a good deal on a 610 get it, but if you want performance from a husky, get the 510. more of a "race bike" the 610 is a good bike, but the 510 has more power and is lighter. DONT BUY AN APRILIA!!!!!!!!!!! i still have an 07 sxv 5.5 with a hole in the case! 1600 miles.....ka boom.

I've put 8600 miles on a new 07 since last June. The bike comes with it's problems, but it is a hoot to ride. I don't care what people think, it is a high maintenance bike. Cam chain get's replaced at a little over 6k miles, but it is easy to do. Bike needs jetting when you get it, JD jet kit is easy. Needs a muffler. Everything needs to be tightened down with loctite, motor mounts loosen regularly. Primary gear drive shaft nut needs to be red loctited. Suspension is geared towards heavier riders. Forks oil is 7.5 weight and I dropped it down to 5 weight, forks were harsh before. Shock is harsh until you back out all the highspeed compression. My battery cracked the other day. Exhaust flange broke off and I had a friend re-weld it. Cracked my rear rim wheeling over a square curb, rim aren't heat treated but can be re-welded. My dash lights up like a christmas tree occasionally, and I'm impressed when it says I am at 24k rpm at half throttle. See what I am getting at?

Brakes are good, I upgraded to a radial master but not necessary. Suspension is quite good for my weight at 170. Power is about 48 to 50 uncorrected hp, plenty good.

My bike has a stutter when the weather gets muggy or when there is a climate shift. I've tried all the known fixes: plug, tps, jetting. No luck, so I have to live with it everyonce in awhile. I spoke with the people at Sudco, and they say it's a known FCR problem, and you'll never solve it. Some bikes don't stutter at all, luck of the draw.

I have a blast every time I ride it, but it does come with some headaches. The cam chain deal really through me. I had to wait a month for the chain to come in too. The bike has never left me stranded, it's pretty solid in that respect. It's also a strange mix of good engineering and cheap crap.

Look for a used one at 4 to 5k. I'd buy a used one again, but not a new one. Husky Dealers are not local, so the warranty is pretty much useless unless you have something catastrophic. Had I tried to get everything fixed under warranty, I'd have like 1500 miles on it by now.

Birdman,

I was about to add the leaky rocker cover and gas cap, but how much are you asking?

I'm waiting on a couple of things as far as money but my timeline for the decision is in the fall or next spring.

You know how it is...race season = broke

Thanks for the input! Also, the chain info and other details were extremely helpful. I think at this point I'm going to take someone's for a ride (cough...RacerX) and decide whether to get one or another DRZ and go with the fcr carb and other goodies on the DRZ.

As far as power, I think th 610 is more the bike I want since I'm not planning on racing it. If I do decide to dive in to the supermoto racing I'll buy a 450 and build it up as a race bike but that's a long ways off...first will be the ESMRA series on the DRZ...which I hear is a handful so that could be the most I do.

Again, thanks everyone for the great input! very helpful

I had the gas cap issue...but fixed it...nothing else has gone wrong...there were a few loose bolts, but those were caught and tightened.

Well, it would be a no-brainer @ $5500...but I'd be interested in offers

2007 610, 3400miles IIRC

The 610 was on my short list last year. One issue I see is that people don't keep them longer than 12 months. Harv sold his. Nudist is thinking about it. I'm looking for a Duke 2 to make me happy again.

What to do what to do...I want to ride Craig's DRZ as well...he has the mods I want so that would be a major influence on which route I go.

just buying a house, and while I love it, it might be easier to sell/replace than my monster
