New KTM build - March 20, 2011, 09:03 PM

I'm currently building a two KTM hybrids (RFS motors, in SXF/XCF frames) the SXF chassis is far ahead of any of the previous models and the RFS motor is stone reliable, and when tweaked capable of significant HP.

The frame cradle needs modified for exhaust clearance and new lower engine mounts need added in.

Through the frame plumming and the tall motor added in some unforseen space issues

My solution to the plumming problem was to machine a press fit 90 degree adaptor.

The SXF swingarm needs narrowed to match the RFS motor It ends up matching the 530exc. (a 530 swingarm can be used w/o machining)

The chassis is mocked up and 99% complete, untill i get the 600cc stroker motor done im just swaping in my 570 motor.

My next project i'm thinking about a 500cc twin 2stroke (130+ hp 65+ flb tq) 250lb sumo. I already have the chassis and base engine in the garage.

It should be fun if front wheel will stay close to the ground. The only real downside will be 20mpg (est) and at best a 3gal tank...

I think it was you I talked to at the SPOT a few years ago. IIRC you had just got a new exhaust on your Duke?

I'd be down for some KTM/fabrication/engine building/machining BSing over a beer or three somewhere.
