Supermoto racing... - October 26, 2009, 11:40 AM

If you're remotely thinking about it, you should give it a try next year. It's fun, cheap, and laid back.

You've still got one Grassroots round left this weekend if you've got a supermoto and you're on the fence. Details are here:

http://www.supermotojunkie.com/showthread.php?t=74995

If you don't own a supermoto but still want to come try it out, Wheeling Cycle Supply brings rental bikes to most ESMRA rounds. He usually brings 3 DR-Z's and one YZ450, all are equipped with Michelin slicks and just about every high end component you can imagine.

No dirt experience? Don't worry about that either, just come on out and have a blast. I will most likely hit every ESMRA round at Englishtown, NJ and BeaveRun next season so give me a shout if you want to ride along.

Looks like a blast!

Do you have an idea on the bike rental charges?

This season was...$200 a day for the YZ and $100 for the DRZ's. You can split the costs if he's renting the bike to someone else but they are in different classes.

In. Not this weekend but next year. Maybe I'll keep my RXC, have the guys up at Matto rework the motor, and run w/ the big boys. Somebody needs to come in last, right?

That'd be me. No, not the guy crashed, the guy who can't get his bike started.

Grassroots is just that, grassroots. Aaron has only been asking us to pay the track entry fees down at Colonial Beach, $20.

ESMRA is a bit more organized (business speaking) and has to cover the costs at more expensive tracks. It's $55 for a one year membership, then it's based on the number of classes you sign up for. $85 for the first then $115 for the second. I don't know what it is after that because 2 classes is enough for me.

A two class raceday will get you 2 15 minute practice sessions in the morning, then 2 heat races and two finals. So while that would be expensive to some it's alot cheaper than roadracing.

Englishtown, NJ also runs their own supermoto track days and charges $75. It usually ends up open track time and you have to force yourself to stop riding. Seriously...

My goal here is to get more people involved with supermoto because its a fun sport. I know a lot of people sit out on roadracing because they think they are too slow or they feel they might not be fast enough. Well it's not true about roadracing and it certainly isn't true about supermoto. All skill levels are represented.

Not sure, but I think these two reasons might be related.

Sounds like fun...maybe next year.

I'm scared of big jumps though, which tracks don't have big jumps?

man... if I ask forgiveness from the wife, its easier than permission, right?

If I don't sign up to ride, I might be a tag-along.

Awesome!

Multitasking is a bitch. I meant to say "feel they or slow or fall victim to other roadracing stigmas"

Speed I had no dirt experience whatsoever the first time out and hadn't jumped anything intentionally since I was a kid. If you roll over things nice and easy you'll have no problems but know that the jumps get easier with time.

I still hate whoops though.
