SXV 5.5 riders? - January 27, 2011, 06:59 PM

If your on here I'm itching on a 07. I am aware these are race bikes and not dick around town bikes.

How have yours held up? I hear mixed reviews on some trannys blowing and and the factory sealant issues.

I was also wondering what the maintenance schedule looks like, there are to many guys on SMJ that flame it without owning, or operating one.

Stillie and UUBusa each have one. UU just got an 2010 and freaking rocks. These things should not be street legal. Yes they are high maintaince and I would not ride it everyday. A weekend bike yes, track bike yes daily commuter no. I know the 07 had a sealant issue. You could call the dealer in Deep Creek and talk to the guy there. He is the guru of SXV.

Thank you, and from rider reports this thing eats riders like a 2 stroker. The 07 I'm thinking about is new and the dealer fixed the sealant problem, it still has a warranty!

That is overrated. I ran 500 to 800 on mine when it was a street bike. Now I change it every two track days or one race weekend.

Jake with as much as you bitch about things you will probably want to avoid this bike.

-Short time between oil changes.
-No 6th gear.
-Annoying oil change procedure that must be absolutely precise.
-Finicky Italian doesn't want to start when it's cold.
-Needs some money invested to get right.
-All performance parts are overseas and expensive.

Pros
-550cc Vtwin that weighs around 300lbs.
-One of the foremost tuners in the country is in MD.

If you do go down this road, buy an 08 or newer unless you find an 07 with an 08 motor. While you can find resealed 07's around they still don't have some of the features such as the new starter and fast idle switch.

You'll want to upgrade the pads to the SBS 842 RSI pads immediately. These are the same pads that are rebadged and sold as Aprilia racing pads.

How bad are valves to do on it? And how bad is the initial service?

I've never touched my valves but the procedure doesn't look too complicated. They say that you're supposed to do a complete rebuild at 5600 miles but there are several people who have gotten well over 12k before they saw any compression issues.

Initial service is usually just an oil change unless it hasn't been derestricted yet. A good dealer will do this when you buy it. Has to be done by them because it requires some sort of special tool.

Stay away from smj for ape advice. Most of those guys hate it because the owners are douchebags. Go to the aprilia forum and learn the King's English.

And don't you mean it has no 6th gear. Pretty sure they are 5 speeds.

Thats the Break In milage...

Yes, I love this crazy ass bike too! Stillie is right though, all aftermarket parts (the few there are) are overseas. Which in my case is a good thing. I spending money on shit i don't need.
On the other hand, i don't think it needs any performance parts....well maybe a Sil-motor or Arrow pipe. the neighbors would love it.
Stillie knows all the quirks. All I know at this point it hates cold weather and to keep the front wheel on the ground.

Dealer wise.. is the place in Deep Creek. Lemme tell ya, this dude had an SXV broken down and gave us both a class on everything about an hour! I've never experienced anything like that. Plus he "Tuned" it..
If ya don't want that , you can buy it over the phone and they'll ship it to ya for free.

Anyways, this thread is going to add to my post count
I'll PM you my number and you can swing thru and check it out.

I want a Sil-Moto street exhaust in the worst way. The one that uses the stock tips instead of giving it a butthole under the seat.

Only you would leave your open butthole out there for someone to poke fun at!
