2012 ktm rc8-r demo ride review - April 2, 2012, 09:02 AM

Motorcycle Factory Inc in Woodbridge has a white one for demo purposes in case yall are interested.

Past bikes ridden for comparison purposes-2002 honda f4i, 2008 honda cbr600rr,2008 cbr1000rr, 2010 zx10r, 2011 bmw s1000rr.

I doubt its worthwhile putting up with my crude review abilities and limited track experience (one day)..but here goes.

Impressions -- expected torque feel, nice and smooth transmission, very nimble feel like a 600 cc bike. No real need for slipper clutch at least on my limited street riding.

Brakes were strong and were of the kind that were not too sensitive on the lever.

Overall power probably down from my zx10r but naturally has some better low end.

Ergos -- I didn't like the wide seat. Even though seat height is low, the wide seat offset this and I could barely put feet down. Not issue for long-legged people.

Build quality, from my unsophisticated point of view, looked really nice.

Overall -- I'd say its quite a nice bike but value is lacking looking at price vs competitors -- I can get zx10r with traction control and ABS for this price..

^ agreed, this bike was awesome, I can't remember the last time I smiled so much by just riding a motorcycle on the street.

From my brief test ride (but long enough to have the dealerman come find me on his kawi 250 ), this bike was phenomenal, speed was insane, power great, and just overall feel was very controllable, but ready to explode at the twist of your wrist.

How do you actually 'test ride' it? How much time do you get on the bike?

Is there anything special about the RC8? It ended up like every other litre bike without any of the features of the prototype, right? 1000RR is supposed to be the nuts?

The RC8 prototype was very close to the production RC8. With that being said, I'm glad its discontinued.

Because it sucked and was way too close to the RC8R. It was a good way to get KTM into superbikes but I'm glad it's gone.
