The fairing thing on these and the adventure bikes make me think of the Rancor for some reason.

from some people in the know on ktm talk

Quote:
I tried the search on here and Google and can't seem to hone in on what KTM used as a basis for this package. Is it a 450cc package from the new 350cc motor or is it a sleeved LC4?
Quote:
production enduro for normal non factory riders ......
And for the Factory supported riders a special rally edition, Which is very rare and even harder to get .This uses the 450 sxf engine ( twin cam , wide ratio gearbox , oil cooler , 41mm carb etc )
Quote:
As Glenn said, twin cam motor. 450 SX-F (97mm bore / 60,8 stroke) with 5 speed quad gearbox, modified oil pump and billet oil filter housing to accomodate EXC filters. Special longer output shaft to get the correct line up for the chain (as per Alex Doringer - head of KTM rally department).

The frame is a trellis style design very close if not the same as the 690 RR. Front tanks are 690 RR, single piece rear tank/subframe is a larger version of the 690 E/R/SMC tank without the exhaust cutout so it has a bit more capacity.
