XS650 Sidecar rig / Sidetracker build - August 28, 2011, 07:42 PM

I have been looking at Urals for about two years now. I couldent get the hack bug outta my head. I have also been wanting to do a xs650 street tracker for quite some time too. So why not build a street tracker side car rig?
I started this last November after selling the drz400sm. After looking for 2 months I found one is PA 2 hours and $800 bucks later I drug this guy home. 1980 xs650 heritage special. It started and kinda stopped it had 20k and a slight tapping in the top end but these things are bullet proof right? Figured a quick hone job rings and back together. Here's some pic's of me unloading it and promptly dropping it off the lift .

For the most part she was clean but well used. The wiring harness looks like a rat chewed through it and bubba taped it back together. None of the signals worked and the PO did a rattle can resto on it a few pic's before the tear down

First step it to wildly tear it down and cut every tab that doesn't hold the suspension or engine in place off.

I found another 19'' front wheel and rotor and a left hand caliper from a 1100
I sent the rotors out for drilling and ordered a spacer kit form OMARSDTR.COM.
After mocking it all up I powder coated the wheels gold and rebuilt the calipers and powder coated those and the rotors as well

Front forks needed new stanchions and seals. I sent the fork legs to Hugh's Hand built to have him machine off the fender mounts. Once I got them back I powder coated them black and dropped in some emulators from Mikesxs.com and put them back together

Dual disk setup should stop her good!

First mock up of the new glass. I didn't like the flat sides of the tank so I went with a tank off of a tx500 I had sitting around. if course the petcocks hit the motor so I had to weld up the holes and move them back. I also welded in a flush mount cap and sealed it.

The tail section is a Harley XR replica I got mine from omar's but there is a bunch of company's making them.

The sidecar took a while to find had to go to PA again to pick that up as well. More pic's tonight
